Palestinian Embroidery

Palestinian Embroidery Society of Jordan
The Artists
The Palestinian Embroidery Society of Jordan (PESJ) was founded by Indigo
Traders to help sustain the intricate art of traditional Palestinian embroidery.
The Society is made up of skilled and seasoned embroiderers who now reside
in Jordan. Also bringing talent and enthusiasm to the Society, a new generation
of young Palestinian women is eager to carry on the embroidery tradition.
Working together, Palestinian women of all ages are creating opportunities
to sell their unique and exquisite form of art.
The Mission
The Society’s mission is twofold:
First, to provide a source of income for Palestinian
women and their families during a time when opportunities are scarce. Modern
technology and the Internet offer an exciting outlet for Palestinian women
to sell their art. The Society offers business resources and teaches women
the skills needed to expand their opportunities.
Secondly, the Society’s mission is to
help sustain the art itself. As regional folkways are threatened, it is
essential that traditional designs be preserved and taught to younger generations.
As oral tradition remains the most significant link between generations
and their heritage, modern technology ensures that little is lost in between
